Hobart tops Ithaca in opener

In the season opener for both teams, Hobart took down Ithaca, 92-67, on Tuesday evening.

The Hobart Statesmen shot over 60-percent for the game, while Ithaca shot under 32-percent from the field. Ithaca Junior Eric Halejian (Wykoff, N.J.) finished with eight points and a team-best five assists. Last season, Halejian averaged 1.8 points in 15 games as a sophomore.

Josh Kalenderian (Bedford, Mass.), a Hobart senior, had five points for the victors. Kalenderian added two rebounds and one assists in his 13 minutes. Both Halejian and Kalenderian were used in reserve roles during Tuesday’s game.

This past summer, Halejian was a member of a Los Angeles-based basketball team that competed at the 5th Pan-Armenian Games in Yerevan. The L.A. team finished in first-place after a victory over Sochi, Russia in the tournament’s championship game.
