On Friday night, Waterford Mott (MI) defeated Walled Lake Central, 44-40, to win the Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division title.
In the final seconds, Central had a chance to tie or go ahead with a 3-pointer but Mott senior captain Drew Hovsepian came away with a huge steal. Free throws sealed the victory for Mott.
“This is a genuine dream come true for me, all the kids on this team and in this program, and the entire Corsairs community,” Mott head coach Jeff Jayson said. “I couldn’t have written up a better script. These guys really deserve the hardware.”
Hovsepian leads the Corsairs in assists (4.8 per game), steals (2.9 per game), and 3-point shooting (41%). In 2010, as a sophomore, Hovsepian was the sixth man on a varsity squad that also won the league title.
